A lesson about love and life

Recently, I listened to a mother and her daughter in their last moments together at the airport, while the daughter’s departure had been announced. Standing near the security gate, they hugged and the mother said:

“I love you and I wish you enough.”

The daughter responded, “Mom, our life together has been more than enough. Your love is all I ever needed. I wish you enough, too, mom.” They kissed and the daughter left.

The mother came over to the window where I was sitting. Standing there, I could see that she wanted and needed to cry.
I tried not to intrude on her privacy, but she allowed me to get involved by asking me, “Have you ever said goodbye to someone knowing it was forever?” – «Yes», ​​I replied. – “Forgive me for asking, but why is this goodbye forever?”

“I am old and she lives far away. I have challenges ahead of me and the reality is that the next trip back will be for my funeral,” she said.

When you were saying goodbye, I heard you say, “I wish you enough.” May I ask what that means? »

She started to smile. “That is a wish that has been passed down from generation to generation. My parents used to tell everyone.” She paused for a moment and looked up as if she was trying to remember it in detail and smiled even more.

“When we said ‘I wish you enough,’ we were wishing the other person to have a life filled only with things good enough to sustain them.” Then turning to me, she shared the following, reciting it from memory,

I wish you enough sunshine to keep your attitude bright.

I wish you enough rain to appreciate the sun more.

I wish you enough happiness to keep your spirit alive.

I wish you enough pain to make the little joys in life seem so much bigger.

I wish you enough profit to satisfy your desires.

I wish you enough loss to appreciate everything you own.

I wish you enough hello to help you get through the last goodbye. »

She started crying and walked away.

They say it takes a minute to find a special person. An hour to appreciate them. A day to love them. And a whole life to forget them.
