The term “lower abs” is actually a misnomer for your rectus abdominis muscle , or abdominal wall, it actually covers your entire abdomen and connects at your pelvis. Still, women (and men!) are constantly searching for exercises that will help them shed that dreaded lower belly fat . Well the search is over! The key? Put your legs and your brains into it. “ Whenever you move your legs, you are working the lower abdomen ,” says the trainer, since they are connected to the hip flexors. Unfortunately, most of us believe that these hip flexor exercises do not work the abs, not to mention that they are quite uncomfortable. “ The lower abdomen needs a lot of mental focus, ” he says. So putting your brain on the muscle group is key, you have to constantly focus on your lower abs and make sure you feel them engaged in every movement.
