One of the world’s most famous and most philanthropic young people is back at it again. Jaden Smith, son of Will Smith and Jada Pinkett-Smith, announced his intentions to open a restaurant that feeds the homeless for free. This is what we know about how the restaurant will run so far.
Jaden Smith To Open A Restaurant To Feed The Homeless
In 2019, Jaden Smith launched his I Love You food truck campaign that successfully fed healthy vegan food to the homeless people on Skid Row in Los Angeles and Harlem, NYC. Now, he is taking that concept one step further. The young actor and rapper is expanding upon his food truck business to open an actual, stationary restaurant in Los Angeles where homeless people can eat for free.
His restaurant, however, is not going to only be for the homeless. Anyone can eat there, so long as they understand the conditions: If you are homeless, you eat for free. If you are not, you pay extra to pay for the meal of the next homeless person to come in.
“It’s for homeless people to get free food,” he explained. “But if you’re not homeless, not only do you have to pay, but you have to pay for more than the food’s worth so that you can pay for the person behind you.” (1)
Currently, the young star has not announced when or where the restaurant will be opening up.
He Provides Water, Too
Smith hasn’t just been providing the disadvantaged with food for the last few years, he also has been providing water. In October 2020, he launched The Water Box. The Water Box is a filtration system that helps to provide clean water to areas that are unable to access it. In Flint, Michigan, which has been experiencing an ongoing water crisis, Jaden Smith provided the equivalent of 300,000 water bottles of clean water. Though no matter what you do, you will always draw criticism, most people have praised Smith for his efforts to help those in need. He is a wonderful example of someone taking their money and influence and putting it toward a good cause.
